Sydney Cigar Club July at Brooklyn Social – Recap

One thing we are always striving for at Gentleman’s Cabinet is ‘the perfect balance’. We look for a balance in a cigar between the strong peppery notes and the powerful leather tones that kick in the second third. We look for balance in our whisky between the sweetness that comes from a sherry cask and the minerals in the peat. We then look for a balance in pairing the two. And beyond that, we strive for balance in ones personal life to enjoy the unique experience a great whisky and cigar bring.

I attended an event the other night with the Sydney Cigar club at the Brooklyn Social in Surry Hills.  The night is best described as a well balanced event. A gentleman from the Glenrothes whisky, Dan, came along and shared with his some of his well balanced malts. We sampled the Select Reserve, the Alba Reserve, the 2001 and the 1995. The tasting was well paired with some interesting background and tid-bits about the Glenrothes distillery, and was enjoyed by whisky novices and veterans alike. We then headed outside to cover the street just outside central station in the pleasant aroma of cigar smoke.

Old friends caught up, new friends were made, great food was consumed and many laughs were had. I left the evening full of food, whisky and great new memories.

I’m not sure if the same thing happens with you, but every time I sit with a cigar is a new experience. I learn something new, taste something new or just appreciate it in a new light. Even if I smoke the same cigar two days in a row, it will be different each time, generally better the second round. I think the same can be said about the Sydney cigar club, every meet is different and brilliant. Join us every month to learn something new, meet new people but most of all, have an even better time than before!
